I Traveled through Kittanning in 1929or 30 and road over US 422 when it was dirt. and crossed an old rickety bridge to travel to Indiana, PA from Grove City,PA. I have been trying to find the bridge or a picture of it with no results? My brother Rev. Richard Buchanan lives near there. I am 84 with a photographic memory. I remember going down a steep hill making a 90 dwgree turn to an old rusty shaky bridge. We made the trio almost weeklu because my great grandma Margorie Hess was in very poor health and died when I was very young. Al Buchanan

SO GLAD to see this site! I attended kindergarten at the McCain House in 1956 with Mrs. McCurdy. VERY HAPPY MEMORIES!!
My grandma worked at Schlemmer's Paint Store and, nearing her retirement, at the Arcade.
We attended the First Baptist Church for many years.

Both Kittanning and Armstrong County governments looked for alternative uses for the IUP buildings but were unable to find enough revenue to justify upgrades - insulation, asbestos abatement, etc. Since senior housing near downtown was also a priority, it made sense to tear down the deteriorated buildings to make room.

Speaking for a group of Beers family members, we are considering having a large reunion during the third week of June, 2012 in Kittanning. Our need would be a place for us to stay over a weekend (Friday and Saturday night) close to the Armstrong County Historical Society (we would need to ask if we can have the HS open on that Saturday). Some of us are also very much interested in the history of Kittanning. Any suggestions? I don't have a count yet, but it would include all the Beers lines who lived or originally came from Armstrong and surrounding counties. If you're interested in attending or have some information that would be vital to the Beers family my phone number is 717-266-6985 or you can reach me at ReneeLWaring@aol.com

There are two gazebos in the south end of the park starting near Sheetz and ending at the Citizens Bridge (Business 422) at Market St. The older gazebo in the north end of the park is at the foot of Arch St.

Here is a clickable map link for Riverfront Park: http://m195.local4all.com

I was facinated to see these pictures. I would like to know if these places have landmark signs. I grew up in Ford City and have family living in Kittanning. I noticed these home because of there unique beauty. As a tourists, I don't think they would stand out as well. Where is the park? What I love about Kittanning is the park at the river with the Kittanning bridge and Dam. Its a beautigul scenery. I hope you continue to iimprove this web site. Thanks for doing a good job.
